A Veteran's Return to Dungeons & Dragons Online (Part 8)
Well, honestly, I didn't play much this past week. I was on a retreat wit a church group for 4 days, plus it was my birthday last Monday. So I only have one thing to think about this week....
WHERE ARE ALL THE COOL WEAPONS?
3rd edition D&D introduced all kinds of new exotic/racial weapons and the Ebberon campaign world added to the list. So why aren't any of them (with the exception of the Dwarven Axe) in DDO?
I can understand the gnomish hook/hammer as there are no gnomes either (another sore spot for D&D purists). But how cool would it be to have a ranger spinning around a double sword (there's even a specific group of elves in Ebberon called the Valenar that wield double scimitars!) or a ½ orc barbarian with an orcish urgrosh (an axe/spear combo)?
And forget the exotic stuff, where's the spears? Turbine uses spears in Lord of the Rings Online (LotRO).
And while we are on the subject of weapons, why don't monk hand-wraps show an elemental/alignment based aura like everyone else's weapons? I understand bows/arrows not doing it, but it souldn't be that hard for hand-wraps to look cool too.
Just my disgruntled ramblings, I know. And I may be of in right-field by myself on this topic, but I really wish my ranger could spin some sort of double ended weapon!
Just one more exotic weapon plug (in case Turbine might actually read this) in 2nd Edition, Darksun universe they had a weapon called a tortoise blade basically a buckler with a short sword coming out of it. Very cool dual wielding as they each gave +1 AC bonus as well as being a weapon... I'm not crazy here, they were in an issue of Dragon Magazine ane are one of my favorite all time D&D weapons.
See you in Xen'drik.
